Flamingdesks

This is the office of Nonsense, an advertising agency based in Soho, that's Robbie waving. On Monday I needed a desk to work from so I went to FlamingDesks.com. Flaming Desks is something that Nonsense has set up. Basically anyone with a spare desk (in their office) registers and announces that they have a spare desk, then people who need a desk can find one... and use it. The site is still in Alpha stages, but it works pretty nicely.

Summizelogo

Summize labs is the kind of thing that you can play with, not really agree with or understand but still enjoy, so that's pretty good, if entirely useless. It can be amusing too. Basically this particular tool analyses what people are saying (on Twitter) around certain subjects and categorises the 'general feeling'. Finding holes in this concept is like finding holes in the London water system; pretty easy.Anyway it still provided me with some entertainment.

I'm feeling swell...

Wishlist

I've been using Wishlist buddy for some time but I've never written about it and it's so damn good I feel it foolish not to spread the word.

This is one of those services online that is really simple and makes my life better. If only there more tools like this!

It's really simple. You import your Amazon Wishlist into the little site and then write what you'd like to pay for each item on the list. So if something currently costs £15, you then state that you'd be happy to buy it for £9. It the price drops to below £9 you get an email alert. How good is that. I've saved tons of money through it.

There are several sites that have done this in the past. But I think I like this one best. Wait till you see the PowerPoint of Animal Farm!!!

Widgethell

I've about had my fill of widgets for widgets sake. Most social apps have embeddable widgets (or digital midgets) which people embed on their sites, (mostly blogs) and for the most part I don't believe they deliver any value. Sorry.

Etsy

The internet has done a fabulous job of facilitating the world of the niche and I've started to think it's changed it. It used to be that people with hobbies sat in dark rooms and toiled away on their own private post-work side interest. I quite liked this charming solitary behaviour.

Now they meet on Etsy and Flickr, share tips and sell their goods. Yes, sell them. When I was a bit younger if a friend of yours could knit, he / she would make you a scarf and you'd be super grateful. Now you have to visit their online shop.

Greenpic

This is pretty slick. The largest colour LED display in the world, powered exclusively by solar panels. Yes, it's in China. The panels harvest the daylight rays and then display 'stuff' through the night...

Modernista

Quite intriguing. This site belonging to an advertising company from Boston sits on top of their Wikipedia page. The Wikipedia page still functions as normal. Nice.

Brandtags

This is a nice little idea from Noah Brier. You simply write a word that reminds you of the brand in question. While the brand world doesn't excite me terribly this is a beautifully simple idea carried out in a flawless manner. 10 points.

I've noticed that Noah has had some pretty good ideas over time. He's inspiring me to get my pen and pad out.

I love stuff like this.Turning some public advertising fluff into some pretty coloured squares. My kinda subversion. I am a fan of the Pixelator.

Street View for using directions on Google maps has been introduced. If I had this in a car, I would be dead in minutes...

A friend of mine was recently leaving his job and moving on to the next one, as you do. He was told that his potential new employer had Googled him and Facebooked him. Obviously employers do this all the time. Online privacy is rapidly slipping away and perhaps we didn't need it to begin with anyway. Perhaps it's irrelevant online. Anyways.

It's getting easier and easier to find out information about people, what they've been up to and what they are going to get up to.

When I was young, Computer stuff was called Information Technology, we had classes in it and it was pretty boring. The guy teaching the classes had the social skills of a service elevator and the people who were good at the class didn't really talk to anyone outside of their group. They pretty much spoke their own language. How things have changed.

I have just come back from a meeting with Gi Fernando who runs Techlightenment. They make social media apps. They made the Bob Dylan and Socialistics Facebook apps for example. Needless to say they are pretty sharp cookies in the digital social behaviours game. It was one of those good chats where both parties got really excited about the future, you know, flying cars and robotic maids. We both got out more than we came with and I expect we'll do it again soon.

Chicki

It was just a matter of time really wasn't it. Chickipedia is upon us. With this extremely useful resource you can check out the lowdown on all of your favourite honies. And of course with the joy of databases you can find other girls that have the same stats as the girl of your dreams.

I'm guessing this site is mainly used by 12 year old boys.
