A performance artist has created a robotic crawling japanese business man. This is supposed to symbolize the crash of the asian economy. It means something else to me. But make your own minds up.

You can find a few second hand markets in Barcelona, such as Antiguos Encantes, but finding cool stuff at a decent price is not easy, especially when you are not a local. On the other hand however, we all (Barcelonians are no exception) have a few too many objects sitting at home that we grew tired of, while constantly looking for new gift ideas or a special something for ourselves. So while the idea of second hand is attractive to many (cheap, more pers...

The Houston Fence is a temporary outdoor installation on chain-link fences inspired by QR code barcode patterns. It is located at the intersection of Broadway and Houston in New York City, a crossroads notorious for its heavy traffic. The project was built as a result of a commission to improve fences put in place for a major street infrastructure construction project.

The project's blog can be accessed by mobile devices by means of QR code stickers placed on the fences.
The team behind the project is composed by Carolina Cisneros, Carlos J. Gomez de Llarena and Mateo Pintó, the same group that made the Fulton Fence previously.

A couple of "boredom researchers" at Bournemouth University in the UK think we should take time out of the instant-access digital world.Instead of firing off emails at 700 million miles per hour, they are literally sending them by "snail mail".Three snails - Cecil, Austin and Muriel - are ferrying electronic messages from one side of their tank to the other at the impressive speed of 0.03 miles per hour.

These stones are real and known to mortals as Trovants.
Near a village, just south of central Romania a number of stone formations with alien features lie dormant, witnesses to the passing of time; that is – until it rains. Not long after the last drops of water fall, they begin a multiplication process. Small oval or round blain-like forms appear on the upper part of them, and they start to increase in size.

Boone Speed is his real name. Whether the Portland, OR-based photographer's brand of photography is the result of natural-born talent or sheer determination, his aesthetic likely has something to do with his father, Grant Speed. Known for his sculptures depicting Western life, the senior Speed split his West Texas home at the tender age of 12 to ride bulls and earn a living as a cowhand. Boone is keeping the all-American myth going, albeit updated for a new generation.

Not a lot can be done with concrete that has not already been done. Aside from some innovations in concrete strength, weight and lighting, concrete is what it is, hard and cheap.
Transparent House Studio is not ready to throw in the towel just yet, they just introduced a beautiful alternative to your basic sealed concrete flooring. “Concrete Art” is a beautiful way to enhance any room with pretty much any design you can think of. Contrasting the cold austerity of concrete, these floral designs are a great way to enhance any room. This design concept allows for the application of any pattern to the surface, either when pouring or afterwards when the concrete has set.

Just spent 3 days in Rome to check out FotoGrafia, the 7th edition of international festival of photography which runs until May 25th in several venues throughout the city.

In a time when most photo festivals focus on urbanity, chaos or sustainability, the theme chosen by FotoGrafia this year is very brave: "Seeing normality. Photography portrays daily life".

A French photographer, Cedric Delsaux, has created scenes similar to the one above which place Star Wars subjects against bleak urban backdrops. By using such stark urban settings, icons of the Star Wars franchise seem to fit into modern-day France perfectly.
Subjects which Delsaux has used in his collection include C-3PO and R2-D2 looking at a derelict Citroen, Darth Vader swiping his lightsaber against a building and Jango Fett holding up a car.
Delsaux used image manipulation software to merge the images of the subjects and backdrop; 'I decided to mix together the common suburbs and some fantastic characters, which I think has created something poetic,' he said.

(Picture: one of the art pieces at the exhibit. National pride, by Angles Alvarez Colombo.) In the first year Earth Day (April 22) has gained some notice in Argentina, late celebrations continued during the weekend in the country’s capital. On Friday, an exhibition focusing on artists who work with environmental and social issues opened at La Europea, a design house in Palermo neighborhood. On Saturday, the Buenos Aires Earth Day Festival had its first edition, gathering musicians and NGOs at the United Nations park, in fancy Recoleta neighborhood.
Even though the events weren’t massive, they are indicato...

Take two persons whose work in the media art field i've been admiring for years. Have their minds communicate for more than a couple of minutes. What is going to happen?

I dunno about this, I wouldn't want to ride through any puddles, and it might be bumpy going over potholes, although the big radius might be great for jumping them.Dezeen says that it was commissioned for the XXI Century Man exhibition in Tokyo. Designer Ben Wilson is quoted below:...

Brazilian artist Carla Tennenbaum has found a way to turn tons of EVA foam leftovers into colorful pieces of art and accessories. Tennenbaum explains that her aim is to, "explore the frontiers between graphic arts, artisan work and objects design through the development of de-construction and reconstruction techniques to apply with industrial waste."
She began working with EVA foam in 2000, when she found this material was not recycled and, therefore, used to end in landfills. Her two main lines are called Party and Kinetics. The first is a set of puffs in which the transparent plastic covering shows the hundreds of small pieces of EVA foam ins...

http://www.archive.org/details/Surveillance
'Surveillance' comes out of INVIGILATOR : DIGBETH the 5th in the INVIGILATOR series conceived by artists Paul Conneally, Nikki Pugh and Kev Ryan.
The poem is a direct transcript taken by Paul Conneally as he heard it of INVIGILATOR : DIGBETH participant artist Harry Palmer in the discussion workshop which formed part of INVIGILATOR : DIGBETH and took place after the Invigilators had returned to VIVID art gallery in the heart of Birmingham's Digbeth area.
The sound track is made from a snippet of Harry saying the word ' surveillance ' combined with the ambient sounds of the VIVID space that the artist led discussion was taking place in.
WARNING! The soundtrack of Surveillance contains backmasked material - hidden messages.

Another aspect of Invigilator:Digbeth are the 'emotion grids' that participants were asked to fill in when at the work place. I spent some time last night looking at these and the accompanying emotional words list - a list of emotionally related words that participants could circle if they felt applied to them at the time - as many as they wanted to circle or not.
One group posted a filled in Emotion Grid through the letterbox of the building 'Good For Wood' (which sounds like a good title for a porno movie) and pasted another on the building itself.
