Communities

It seems to me that in the last 20 years, we've seen, heard and witnessed the "decline in communism", but seen an almost equal and opposite rise in the word community.

It also seems to me that communities are perceived as good if they're poor, bad if they're anything else. Like "real" communities = working class areas, "nice" communities = middle class areas, "gated" communities = upper middle class, and the super-rich aren't capable of communal living, they reside in "areas".

Am I making this up?

my favorite sort larry! I think maybe to fill a void that doesn't really exist around here.

I am always bangin' on about creating a community, either by building one from the earth up, or buying a linked set of homes/a farm. The one thing that is in the way of this is cash. People don't want to take the risk of communal living not working out and then losing money trying to sell their way out of the situation. If land/housing was cheaper then more attempts would be made.

If land or housing was cheaper then we would have very expensive oil or food. You want the communism back? Have you ever visited the zone rezidentiale teleorman to see what's left after the communism? Even if in some countries there have passed almost 20 years since the communist party has fallen, people still have that mentality that they are not free and everything they do is being watched. We have freedom of speech now but tell them that. The old people are still communists and they can't understand the young generation for being so free.
