Turn any room into a racetrack

fritsl fitted an infrared sensor to a radio-controlled car with "crap maneuvering abilities" and programmed it to turn left or right, to maintain a set distance from any obstacles as it drives. The result is a car that "self-learns" its way around a race course - typically the walls of a room. When two cars are set loose in the same space, the results are interesting, says fritsl:If the red car is behind blue car, what does it do? The blue car is in front, so we turn left to take over, until nothing is on the right, so we pull back... What is actually going on, is that one car is behind, but is "struggling" to take over... and we have a full race!Learn how to make your own wall racers here. Fritsl hopes to market his idea as a toy which seems a reasonable idea - perhaps combined with this work on race cars that evolve to become better drivers.Colin Barras, online technology reporterVia
