PROTEIN
Believe. DVDs coated with a layer of genetically-altered microbe proteins could one day hold terabytes of information, says a US-based researcher, reporting his findings at the International Conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in Brisbane recently.
Venkatesan Renugopalakrishnan, a professor of Biomedical Engineering at Florida International University and an internationally recognized expert in protein structural biology and engineering has invented a next-generation means of storage technology that dwarfs current technology.
Renu (as the professor is known) and his team at BioFold Inc., a California-based firm that he founded in 1999, in collaboration with FIU and other corporate labs, are designing a single-layer DVD that can store up to 198 gigabytes of data – more than 20 times the capacity of a dual-layer DVD-9. The technology will be able to store even up to 50,000 gigabytes (about 50 terabytes), he says.

[ ] chris cleverly talking about his pan african sub saharan railway.
[ ] tuur van balen and his my city = my body project.
[ ] mark earles on his awesome book, "herd".
so, let me know if there's anyone else you would like to have come down and talk and we'll do our best to get them.

So, roll up roll up to be entertained and inspired.
Yes indeed, the first mini-Protein® Forum event is taking place on 2nd July as part of 2gether08 at the Rochelle School in Shoreditch. They've got a great line-up of speakers, panels, workshops and sessions so get your ticket now.
The format for the Protein® Forum events are going to be similar to the Freq events we used to run at 54 Below i.e. 3 speakers, 30 mins each with drinks and DJ's after. The difference for the 2gether event is that we are on at 10:30 in the morning, so no drinks and DJ's this time.

David Wilcox has just posted the interview I did with him last week at One Alfred Place ahead of the first Protein® Forum event at 2gether08 in a couple of weeks. Hating the sound of my own voice. Loving the fact the I got "TED Shoreditch" in.

OK Will, enough is enough. dunno about the rest of the Protein Hardcore but my kitchen needs a Calendar. March is plenty late enough, you are about to beat last years effort - PULL YOUR FINGER OUT ;-)
Test post for first Protein® forum event.
so, you may have noticed over the last few days a few changes to the feed. we've been beta testing the new RSS API aggregator that we're hoping is going to point the feed in whole new direction.
the logic behind this decision is one driven by frustration! too many feeds and not enough time. hence we are hand selecting the top 5 feeds across each protein channel that are currently available online today and creating our very own RSS style feed reader. it's is a slight departure from the existing members own feed/blog, but we hope/think you'll agree it's a great addition.
the plan once all the feeds are in place is to the introduce a multi level filter system that will allow you to filter all the seeds based on the following:
1. your posts
2. your peeps posts
3. protein members posts
4. all protein posts
5. all web posts
thoughts, comments and suggestions as always greatly received.

I've been doing a lot of thinking about the future of the OS recently. This is nothing new. Since the site launched in 1998 we have always been trying to predict the next generation technologies that we could incorporate to stay ahead of the curve, and without giving ourselves too many props, I think we've done a pretty good job so far.

Hey everyone, great to be back. I'm not sure what happened exactly since I was an old school protein user, and one day I found it no longer existed and I stopped getting e-mails. Well, good to be back, and if anyone fills me in, even better. Later all.

Beat that!
It means I joined 9 years before I was born. Or maybe it has something to do with the epoch 00:00:00 UTC on January 1, 1970...

Just to let everyone know that as of 12:00 GMT on Friday 14th December, Protein® OS will be going invite only. What does this mean?
1. Login if you already have a Protein® OS account or if not, make sure you register this very second!
2. Tell all your friends to do the same.
3. Feel smug that you and your crew are members of the best cultural operating system known to man.
We're not trying to be all "exclusive" and "better than you", but we just think that in this new social networking landscape, there is a lot to be gained from a little privacy and growing the community through friends of friends.
